MMA Workout Equipment

A look at what equipment can be best incorporated into your MMA workouts, from simple items such as jump rope (or skipping rope) to kettle bell weights, exercise wheels and medicine balls as well as looking at what home-made equipment can be put together if you are on a tight budget.

You have probably seen videos of Pride Heavyweight Champion and MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko training using items such as sledgehammers and truck tires – not methods you will see at your average high street gym, and there are many other lesser known ideas you can try out too.

Weights
As big a fan of body-weight exercises as I am, it wouldn’t feel right not having some weights at home. Although you can get by with a small set by changing the weights from exercise to exercise, if you can afford it you will find it a lot more convenient to have a range of dumbbells/barbells set up at different weights that are ready to use.

Those fixed, non-changeable hand weights you can get are good for shadow boxing too.

Jump Rope
Known in some countries as a skipping rope, the jump rope is an invaluable tool in any MMA workout. It has been used by boxers in their training since time began (almost) with good reason: it works. A simple piece of equipment that is highly effective, and can be picked up for less than ten dollars.
